Pendulum-based Hand Water Pump

A pump transfers water from one place to another with the help of mechanical action. For the continuous supply of water, it needs larger human effort. The project fabricated a pendulum pump that reduces human effort and conserves energy. It can be used in small scale irrigation, handling of waste water and lifting water to small height. The components of pendulum-based water pump are: Pendulum, Pendulum bob, Lever, Fulcrum and Reciprocating pump. The designed pendulum pumped more water than the normal hand pump, and the discharge was constant with uniform effort. It helps in pumping water easily and efficiently.

The project was carried out by Rejsha Khote, Kshitiz Kunwar, Sandhya Mishra and Sarad Niroula, students of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Kathmandu University in 2017
