THE POLITICAL ECONOMY OF WATER IN SOUTH ASIA: The 1995 CONFERENCE

In January, 1995 a conference on the Political Economy of Water in South Asia was held in Chennai (then Madras) . The Joint Committee on South Asia (JCSA) of the Social Science Research Council/American Council of Learned Societies and by the Madras Institute of Development Studies (MIDS) sponsored the four-day conference. It brought together leading researchers from diverse disciplines with broad experience in South Asian water studies (anthropologists, economists, historians, sociologists, and legal and environmental scholars, hydrologists, water engineers and hydrogeologists) who discussed the presented papers.
