Nature-based Solution to Mitigate Landslides Hazard Risk: Feasibility Study

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) defines nature-based solutions (NbS) as “actions to protect,  sustainably manage, and restore natural or modified ecosystems that address societal challenges effectively and adaptively, simultaneously providing human well-being and biodiversity benefits.” They can provide sustainable, cost-effective, and flexible approaches for disaster risk reduction. The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 highlights the importance of NbS as an effective technique to reduce disaster risk, adapt to climate change, and strengthen community resilience. This report documented the causes and impacts of landslides in the Changunarayan Municipality and current practices to minimize/mitigate landslides in the municipality and recommended viable measures to manage landslides.
