The 2015 Gorkha earthquake and aftershocks ruptured socio-economic, administrative, and political systems, exposing gaps in the construction of homesteads, public buildings, and schools. Realizing the importance of safety factors required in built structures and current capacities of masons, ISET Nepal capacitated masons on safer building construction. The masons gained knowledge and skills on safe building construction components and informed on the national building codes and guidelines required for safer construction. It built on their traditional practices and learned new scientific methods for safer buildings.
