Gorkha earthquake recovery challenges in a Fluid Terrain
While the extent of damage was lower than suggested by earlier earthquake scenario(largely due to the fact that the first shock occurred during the daytime on a holiday), damages were still severe, especially in rural areas surrounding Kathmandu. Damage was caused, in part, by the magnitude and intensity of the earthquake, but more so by the low level of preparedness, lack of capacity, and prevalence of unaddressed vulnerabilities.
