The project developed a broad based understanding of the impacts of floods, droughts and long-term water problems have on livelihoods and how such impacts are influenced by the changing socio-economic and demographic context of rural South Asia. It also identified points of leverage where resources in development support and disaster mitigation could assist communities in adapting to changing water realities and where possible, to improve options for the management of the water resource base. Although focused on floods and droughts, many of the insights generated through the research have potential relevance have potential relevance for others contexts where livelihood systems are disrupted and adaptation is essential.
