2015 Gorkha Earthquake: Unpacking Resilience for Reducing Disaster Risk

The Gorkha earthquake and other disasters have made it increasingly necessary to answer the question “Why build resilience and to what?” There is a need for deep scrutiny to glean lessons for building back better and introducing resilience into risk reduction efforts. Both concepts require over coming the sorts of social, institutional, and managerial oversights that can lead to cascading and catastrophic infrastructural failures.
