The Himalayan region of Nepal, which covers 23 per cent of the country’s area, consists of high
mountains, some of whose altitude exceeds eight thousand meters. -Tourists come to this region for mountaineering and trekking. In 2014, about 316 expedition generated a revenue of NRs. 342,950,000 of which Mount Everest alone was responsible for generating 80 per cent.

-Local guides and porters help tourists during their expedition.
-The region is vulnerable to earthquakes, avalanches, blizzards, debris flow and GLOFs.
-157 people have been reported dead from various avalanches that occurred between 1988-2014.
