Dissemination Meeting on Right to Information

ISET-Nepal organised dissemination meeting of the project "Strengthening Transparency and Access to Information on Transboundary Water Governance in South Asia" on July 7, 2014.


Right to information (RTI) which is also a freedom to information is a special form of right that enhances transparency of public institutions and allows authorities to share information having public significance. Therefore, to understand the efficacy of Right to Information in Nepal, a special RTI exercise which involved test filing and tracking of RTI request was carried in different public agencies. The objective of this study was to check the availability of accurate data and information on transboundary river. In Nepal, Koshi River Basin was selected to track RTI status of the selected basin. This study also focused on willingness and response of government in collecting, maintaining, and disseminating relevant data/information in addition to promptness of public body in providing information. Furthermore, the study attempts to assess the quality, comprehensiveness and usability of obtained data and information.
