Climate Change Vulnerabilities and Ecosystem-based Adaptation: ATLAS of the Panchase Mountain Ecological Region, Nepal

The mountain ecosystem project had been implemented in Nepal, Peru, and Uganda. The atlas was an outcome of mountain ecosystem based project of Nepal that examined climate based vulnerabilities of ecosystem in Panchase Mountain Ecological Region (PMER) which is a part of mosaic ecosystem in western part of Nepal. Ecosystem based adaptation has the potential to reduce the vulnerability of ecosystem and humans to both climatic and non-climatic risks. The ecosystem-based adaptation approach recognized that interaction between biophysical and socio-economic entities is complex. The assessment used a systematic approach to understand vulnerability, future climate scenarios and identified options for building resilience. EbA implementation provided decision-makers with a new perspective on development that places people and ecological considerations at the centre of adaptation interventions.
