Community interaction program at Khadichaur and Barahbise for the sustainable Koshi River basin management 11 to 12 April 2019

The interaction program at Khadichaur and Barahbise of Sindhupalchowk District focused on multiple uses of water. This program followed the dialogue process to understand the local issues, challenges, and opportunities in the Bhotekoshi area for its sustainable water management. The issues and concerns of the local people focused on drying of water sources, decreased river discharge (e-flow), river bed extraction, flash floods, and landslides. The fisher folks were more concerned over declining fish population in the river. The community was unaware of the EIA process and its implementation in hydropower projects. Entrepreneurs had serious concerns for river extraction which directly affected water tourism. The pollution is yet another emerging issue in Bhotekoshi River.  Very little initiative has been done to conserve the river. Interaction program as this could raise awareness among the community to take a positive step towards sustainable management of Koshi River basin management.
